Before any permit for a new salt water disposal or injection well can be filed in Texas or New Mexico a public notice of intent is required to be published for public viewing and comment. Only Sourcenergy captures and tracks these notices which provides insight into future drilling plans ahead of the drilling permit.

There were a total of 64 public notices of intent to drill SWDs in October 2021 equaling the amount detected in September 2021.
