Intentions to Build New SWDs in the Permian Drop 6.8% in January 2022

By Greg Tsichlis - February 10, 2022

Before any permit for a new salt water disposal or injection well can be filed in Texas or New Mexico a public notice of intent is required to be published for public viewing and comment. Only Sourcenergy captures and tracks these notices which provides insight into future drilling plans ahead of the drilling permit.

Sourcenergy reports a decrease of 6.8% in the number of public notices of intent to drill new SWD wells in the Permian Basin for the month of January 2022 vs December 2021.  January totals come in at 41 vs 44 in December 2021.  This is compared to the January 2021 total of 16.

January 2022 is slightly above the average of 38 for the full year 2021.
